Continuing Education for Healthcare Professionals

Our CEUs, developed by a team of experienced healthcare professionals, focus primarily on the effects of nutrition in patient care and coordination. After completing one of our courses, you will gain new insights into how nutrition, food security, and the greater healthcare system intersect, helping you make more informed decisions when working with patients with unique needs, such as those with a chronic health condition or households prone to food insecurity.

We offer live, interactive CE courses online as well as in-person sessions across the country. For more information, on how to schedule or how to attend, use the contact form below.

Anyone can attend our CE courses. Registered Nurses (RNs), Registered Dietitians (RDs), and Social Workers in most states* are eligible for credit hours. Other titles, such as Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), may be eligible to receive CE credits through this program – refer to your local supervisory organization or board for more details. There is also no cost to register or attend, regardless of whether courses are taken for credit.

*Social Workers in WV, ID, and OR are not eligible for credit hours through our programs.

Registered nurses –These programs have been approved by Kendra Schreiner, RN, an independent provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider #15828.

Dietitians –Although these programs have not been preapproved by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (and thus do not have activity type or performance indicator codes), dietitians often can receive credit for these courses as long as the subject matter aligns with their self-declared learning plan.

Diabetes Management: Providing Support for the Best Outcomes (1 hour)

Our Diabetes Management CE course provides participants a comprehensive view of diabetes mellitus including its forms, symptoms, causes, risk factors, and treatment options, with an emphasis on nutritional considerations for persons with diabetes. Course objectives include:

  1. Identify the different types of diabetes
  2. Recognize the healthcare-related economic impacts of diabetes in the U.S. population
  3. Identify signs and symptoms individuals may exhibit with dangerously low or dangerously high blood sugar
  4. Illustrate how maintaining a healthy lifestyle can prevent and manage diabetes
  5. Explain how good diabetes management reduces complications and improves quality of life
  6. Determine community support options to help members with diabetes successfully manage their condition

Nutrition and Social Determinants of Health: The Intersection of Food Security and Quality of Life (1 hour)

Our Nutrition and Social Determinants of Health CE course is a comprehensive review of how Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) – the myriad of factors that contribute to a person's sense of physical and mental well-being – can lead to problems like food insecurity and malnutrition. This course will also review methods for assessing an individual for food insecurity as well as nutrition intervention and referral options. Course objectives include:

  1. Explain what are Social Determinants of Health (SDOH)
  2. Discuss the impacts Covid–19 has had on SDOH and food insecurity
  3. Explain the relationships between health disparities and health equity
  4. Identify how food insecurity affects quality of life

Kidney Disease Management: Nutritional Support for Renal Health (1 hour)

At the conclusion of the activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Identify the differences between Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).
  2. Identify the risk factors and co-morbidities that contribute to CKD and ESRD.
  3. Discuss nutritional considerations and recommendations for individuals with CKD and ESRD.
  4. Reference clinical data highlighting dietary approaches to address CKD and ESRD.
  5. Direct persons with CKD and ESRD to programs and services designed to address food and nutrition insecurity.
