By combining clinical expertise of our registered dietitians (RDs) and registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) with culinary excellence from our professional chefs, the Mom’s Meals research and development team creates evidence-based meal programs that address specific dietary needs while ensuring meals are satisfying and enjoyable.
The research and development RDs and RDNs use their expertise to:
Design medically tailored meals using food as medicine
Mom’s Meals delivers the most comprehensive evidence-based food as medicine solutions nationwide, including medically tailored meals, nutrition counseling and education, and other nutrition services to improve health outcomes and lower total costs.
We offer nine specialized menus, 60+ meal choices and a wide range of options to support most common nutrition-sensitive conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, renal disease, plus general wellness, vegetarian diets and dysphagia.
"As the nutrition experts, our goal is to make nutrition practical, so living with a health condition doesn’t mean stressing over what to eat," shares Amanda Daines, RD, LD, director of nutrition services.
Our RDs and RDNs work closely with the entire research and development team to ensure meals align with the most recent Dietary Guidelines for Americans and applicable Dietary Reference Intakes. Menus are informed by evidence-based guidance from organizations including the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association, and the National Kidney Foundation. All meals are designed by RDs and RDNs and crafted by professional chefs. Meals meet clinical guidelines and please the palate with appetizing flavors, cultural appeal and the comfort of familiar recipes.
In collaboration with the director of nutrition services, they uphold Mom’s Meals’ nutrition standards and supports guidelines for medically tailored meals as well as broader food as medicine initiatives.
This clinical oversight ensures that:
- Meals meet rigorous nutrition standards
- Dietary restrictions and chronic conditions are properly supported
- Clients receive safe, appropriate and effective nutrition solutions
Provide science-back guidance
RD and RDN credentials have the same meaning. Their training and experience means they also serve as nutrition subject-matter experts, providing science-backed guidance on:
- Meal ingredients
- Allergen information
- Complex dietary inquiries
- Menu change requests
Up-to-date ingredient information is maintained in PDF format for each menu and made available to both clients and staff. This allows individuals to review ingredients, understand allergen considerations, and confidently choose meals that best suit their personal health goals and preferences.
They support internal teams including customer care, commercial, development, labeling, marketing and purchasing — ensuring nutrition accuracy and transparency remain central to every department’s work and to help clients, caregivers and health plans and case managers make informed decisions.
Support clean-label innovation and ingredient integrity
Prioritizing clean-label formulations we continuously monitor our meals and our ingredient supply chain to proactively remove ingredients as nutrition science and federal guidelines evolve.
Our meals are free from ingredients like:
- Synthetic food dyes
- Added MSG
- Partially hydrogenated oil
- High-fructose corn syrup
- Added trans fats
- Artificial sweeteners such as sucralose
- Preservatives banned in the European Union
