Kathryn Tong joins Mom’s Meals as Chief Commercial Officer

January 03, 2024

Mom’s Meals®, the leading provider of home-delivered meals in the health care industry, announces the hiring of Kathryn Tong to its newly created position, Chief Commercial Officer. This strategic move underscores Mom’s Meals’ commitment to continued growth and innovation.

Leveraging her extensive health care experience, Tong will accelerate Mom’s Meals’ work in providing nutrition solutions that address social determinants of health and serving health care’s most vulnerable populations. Responsible for advancing the organization’s market strategy, she will ensure that Mom’s Meals continues to set the standard of excellence for quality and service that customers have relied on for 25 years. She will also help Mom’s Meals expand its work with external partners to advance the organization’s food as medicine strategy – further building upon its extensive work demonstrating the impact proper nutrition has on improving health outcomes and reducing total cost of care.

“We are thrilled to have Kathryn join as our Chief Commercial Officer,” said Chris Choi, Mom’s Meals Chief Executive Officer. “Her strategic leadership will help us expand our food as medicine programs to improve the lives of even more individuals suffering from food insecurity and nutrition-related chronic diseases and help reduce health care costs in our country.”

“At a time when we are facing an epidemic of nutrition-related chronic disease, medically tailored meals are a proven, powerful tool for treatment and prevention of diabetes, chronic kidney disease, chronic heart failure and many other conditions,” said Tong. “Mom’s Meals’ stellar track record of improving health outcomes for both Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries with its food as medicine programs combined with its unique, down-to-earth culture attracted me to be part of their mission.”

Prior to joining Mom’s Meals, Tong led her own consulting practice where she advised health care organizations, private equity investors, and entrepreneurs in health care to unlock new growth and partnership opportunities and deliver greater value for patients and members. She has also served as Senior Vice President of value-based care for US Renal Care where she was responsible for standing up their new business unit that partnered with payers looking to delegate financial risk for managing late-stage CKD patients, and served as Vice President of payer, analytics and clinical transformation at US Oncology/McKesson. She has also held several executive-level positions at UnitedHealthcare and Optum as a leader in their Medicare Advantage and Medicaid business units.

Looking toward the future
In 2024, one of the initiatives Mom’s Meals is focused on is improving the digital customer experience. As a part of this, a redesigned website based on client feedback and industry standards to help ensure visitors have a positive experience went live mid-December 2023. The new site will serve as a springboard for continued innovation in serving clients.

Another area of focus is further expanding choice in its menu offerings. Clients are already able to make their own selections from a variety of condition-specific menus based on their taste preferences and dietary needs for every meal beyond their first delivery. Mom’s Meals professional chefs and registered dietitians are continually working to create even more choice for the future.
