Medically Tailored Meals FAQs
Medically tailored meals are nutritionally tailored and fully prepared meals designed by medical experts such as a registered dietitian or registered dietitian nutritionist to help individuals manage their nutrition-sensitive chronic health conditions.
Medically tailored meals can help individuals living with nutrition-sensitive chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, heart failure, renal disease, cancer and celiac disease to manage their condition. Medically tailored meals can also be used to achieve or maintain overall wellness to help prevent nutrition-sensitive chronic health conditions and support dietary preferences.
If you are purchasing meals for yourself or a loved one, all meals are $9.49 or less and we have numerous options at $7.99. If you qualify for meals under a covered benefit program, meals are provided at no cost to you.
Mom's Meals provides meals for many Medicaid programs across the country. Program requirements vary from state to state. Mom's Meals is not able to determine your eligibility for you — you must contact the provider of your Medicaid coverage to see what is available to you. You could also contact the Area Agency on Aging in your area to see what programs are available to you. If one of those organizations determines that you are eligible for meals, ask them to submit an authorization on your behalf to us so that we may start meals for you.

Medicare itself does not cover meals. However, there are some Medicare Advantage (MA) plans that offer home-delivered meal benefits. For example, you may be able to get meals through a benefit when being discharged from the hospital or a skilled nursing facility, or if you are working with your health plan to better manage a chronic health condition. Some MA plans also offer a way for you to purchase meals through pre-paid benefit cards. Mom's Meals is not able to determine your eligibility for you — you must contact your health insurance plan to find out what kind of coverage is available to you. This information can usually be found by reviewing your Summary of Benefits and Coverage document from your plan or by calling the customer services phone number on the back of your insurance card. If your health insurance plan determines that you are eligible for meals, ask them to submit an authorization on your behalf to us so that we may start meals for you.
