What is our food as medicine roadmap and what does it mean for our customers and partners? Luis Martinez, vice president of research and development at Mom's Meals, shares what drives us to continuously deliver high-quality food as medicine solutions in communities nationwide.
At Mom’s Meals, innovation is grounded in purpose. Food as medicine interventions and nutrition support are cost-effective, proven ways to address nutrition insecurity, chronic disease and help address the nutrition needs of vulnerable populations.
Mom's Meals food as medicine roadmap
Rather than a one-time initiative, our food as medicine roadmap is an ongoing commitment to improving the quality and impact of every meal we serve. We bring together food science, culinary expertise, and strong nutrition standards to ensure the ingredients we choose for our medically tailored meals truly support healthy outcomes.
My team and the entire organization are constantly raising the bar, not only by aligning with the latest Dietary Guidelines for Americans, but also actively seeking the cleanest, healthiest and most reputable suppliers that can consistently comply with our high standards, proactively simplifying ingredient statements and increasing nutrient density of our meals. At the same time, we are always thinking ahead about how to better serve our clients and strengthen the positive impact of how we deliver quality nutrition without compromising taste, one meal at a time.
Mom's Meals menu and nutritional science innovations:
- Our food as medicine roadmap is an ongoing and future-focused initiative in our research and development team to constantly innovate to provide high-quality meals that support healthy outcomes using science, expertise and the latest guidelines.
- Designed by professional chefs and registered dietitians, our meals align with evidence-based dietary guidelines and focus on balanced portions of lean proteins, grains, vegetables and fruits.
- Prioritizing clean-label formulations, we continuously monitor our meals and our ingredient supply chain to proactively remove ingredients as nutrition science and federal guidelines evolve.
- Meals are crafted from high-quality ingredients and using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients when possible.
- Meals are produced in USDA- and FDA-inspected facilities that meet rigorous SQF food safety certification standards.
- Meals are free from artificial food dyes, artificial sweeteners, and primarily use natural flavors. In addition, we no longer produce meals with the artificial preservatives of potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate.
Mom’s Meals is committed to advancing food as medicine through continued innovation, partnerships and new initiatives. We will continue to invest in research, services and workforce, such as the expansion of our research and development teams to support food as medicine programs backed by caring support and expertise.
