Christy Harasimowicz

2025 Community Champion Award

Nominated by Tamie Reed, director of the Otsego County Office for the Aging:

Christy is a case manager in Aging Services at the Otsego County Office for the Aging in Cooperstown, New York, who goes the distance and then some for her clients.

Tamie shared that Christy is one of the best employees she has ever worked with. “Christy makes every effort to assist her clients and is meticulous in helping them step-by-step to ensure a process is successfully completed. She never cuts corners, never takes the easy way out and goes the extra mile. Christy is thoughtful about her interactions and has built strong, respected relationships with her clients, always valuing their wishes and helping them navigate the steps necessary to fulfill their needs. She truly lives and practices person-centered care each and every day.”

Christy is dedicated to understanding the services and resources available to the families she serves. If a family has questions that she’s not able to answer directly, she takes the time to find the information directly from the source and follows through in providing this information to her families.

She is responsive to older adults and their caregivers and is empathetic and conscientious of the unique challenges that rural older adults and family caregivers experience. She has advocated for improved training and understanding for herself and her colleagues through opportunities such as person-centered trauma informed care, specialized focus on the LGBTQ community, increased understanding of the mental health barriers faced by many older adults and the specific needs of family caregivers.

Tamie adds that she has received many compliments and words of praise from members of the public, expressing their deep appreciation for the time, attention and knowledge that Christy has provided them in dealing with their personal situations.

Thank you for all you do, Christy, and congratulations on being this year’s winner of the Mom’s Meals and USAging Community Champion award.
